After Proms

Annie and I will be at the after prom festivities in Carroll Iowa doing readings Saturday night into Sunday morning. I love doing after proms (even though the late nights get harder and harder the older I get). Because, in these days of fear based knee-jerk reactions to imagined threats that do nothing more than make us FEEL safer at best, the after prom is a wonderful example of what can happen when real people take responsibility and are willing to go out of their way to DO something for someone else that can actually make a difference. For me, the after prom is one of the best examples of the power of a community to make peoples’ lives better. So I don’t mind missing a few hours sleep. But don’t call me too early Sunday morning.

On the road in southeast Iowa

This week we’re doing shows in Ottumwa, Fairfield, Mount Pleasant, Burlington, and a couple other small towns. We’ll end up in Ottumwa on Saturday night for a big show with Ben Ulin, Jonathan May, and David Casas.

Then we are off to Trenton Missouri to visit family and we’re picking up our medicine show wagon. The Summer fair season is coming up and there’s lots of work to be done to get everything ready.
